Wonnderweiss Margela (Redesign)

My remake of the Zero Espada.

"Lord of the Void"

In the first and only time he says a word in the series, he speaks his Zanpakuto's release word "Seize". He pulls the sword on his back from its scabbard, revealing that there is no blade attached to it. Instead, a mist of purple reiatsu, engulfing him. When it fades, it reveals him in his Resurreccion form. Several feet taller than his original form, with a thin and lanky build. The piece of the Hollow mask on his head grows into a crown-like form, from which rises a purple flame with hand-like forms flow from it. His weapon also takes the form of hand-like reiatsu flames. The most ominous feature of his released form is a carry-over from his original release form, the empty black holes for eyes.

From this weapon he can release a torrent of hands. If they manage to grab someone, they can rapidly drain them of their reiatsu, strength and eventually their life. It's most dangerous ability, however, is the ability to negate the powers of a person's zanpakuto, by grabbing hold of it with the hands. By doing this, not only does we stop the Shinigami from using it, but gives him the ability to use the power to a certain degree.

Upon erasing Histsugaya's Bankai, he drains the ability to use some of his freezing abilities, if not to the same degree as Hitsugaya himself. He also erases one of Soi Fon's missiles, which gives him the ability to release massive explosions of his own. (This will also help as a reason for many shinigami not to use their Bankai, saving it for later reveals further on in the story.)

In order to defeat him, Yamamoto, already wounded by Aizen, attempts to release his own Zanpakuto, correctly believing that there is a limit to what Wonderweiss can take in. When Wonderweiss swallows it with his power, it's strength begins to overload him, leading to him eventually exploding into a massive fireball, incapacitating many of the remaining Shinigami in the Fake Karakura Town (Rather than having Aizen do it himself, which made the very idea of having the Espada to fight the Shinigami pretty pointless).

I never liked the idea of having Yammy be the secret Zero Espada, especially after he is so easily beaten by Kenpachi and Byakuya. I think Wonderweiss would do a much better job in this role. After all, aside from Aizen (and Gin when he cut Hiyori in half), Wonderweiis is the only member of Aizen's army in the entire series who has a lasting effect on the plot. He completely incapacitates Ukitaki, Kensei (off screen), and Mashiro, who don't come back later in the arc like every other "wounded" character does, despite their injuries. This makes him more capable than even the "strongest" of the Espada, and this is in his pre-released form. He also keeps Yamamoto from using his Zanpakuto's abilities, making his defeat by Aizen that much easier.

And I can't ignore that fact that his Resurreccion form is easily the worst in the entire series. Since it's the last on we see, It's possible that Kubo just ran out of good ideas
